About this property

Welcome to Cocolia Hotel

Set on a ridge above the Pacific coast in Mazunte, Cocolia Hotel offers an eco-friendly retreat surrounded by nature. The open-air bungalows blend into the forest environment, with paths winding through native flora and fauna. While this natural setting provides a peaceful atmosphere, guests should be prepared for uneven walking trails and stairs, which may be challenging for those with mobility issues. Rooms do not have air conditioning but come with mosquito nets to manage local insects.

Facilities include an outdoor pool, a bar, and the on-site Restaurante Cacao, highly rated by visitors for its food and ambiance. Complimentary Wi-Fi, free parking, room service, and a pet-friendly policy add to the convenience, while paid breakfast and an airport shuttle service are available. Although there is no business center or fitness facilities, the hotel supports a quiet and restful experience aligned with its sustainable values.

The location is well-suited for guests interested in sightseeing and relaxation, with short walks or easy transport options to nearby beaches like Playa San Agustinillo and Playa Mazunte, and natural attractions such as Punta Cometa for panoramic sunset views. The hotel’s remote setting appeals particularly to those seeking a tranquil getaway immersed in nature, rather than fast-paced urban access.

Guest feedback often highlights the respectful integration with local traditions and environment, as well as attentive and helpful staff. Many appreciate the blend of simplicity and comfort in the unique bungalow accommodations. However, prospective visitors should note the terrain and access can be difficult, especially for those requiring accessibility features, which the hotel does not provide.

This was one of the most special hotels I have ever been to. If you want “resort” level of service, luxury, and attentiveness but also want an eco-minded and ethical hotel, this is for you! The open air bungalows and paths were built in the forest. Nature flourishes around the hotel. Don’t be surprised if you see iguanas, beautiful birds, or spiders. The large pool was a highlight and we spent hours relaxing there. The beach is a ten minute walk away feels like your own private strip of sand. Do note, the uneven paths and stairs to traverse the property would be difficult for the physically disabled. Also, since all bungalows are open air, nature will crawl into your room at night (they have mosquito nets). For me, this was an amazing place with welcoming staff, beautiful vistas, and a wonderful blend of tranquil nature and luxury.

Incredible hotel experience. Cocolia pays special attention to the respect and integration of local nature (and traditions), and you can see it in the way animals, insects, and humans alike feel comfortable in the environment. The bungalows are such a unique and beautiful experience. Staff were also super kind and attentive, and receptive to some small feedbacks we gave. We thought we would explore more of the town center, but ended up mostly enjoying the peace and beauty of the hotel during our 3 days. Just note that the drive up/down to hill is not easy, and walking across the large property is a bit like hiking (minimalist paths and lots of stone steps).

Spent out honeymoon at Cocolia and it was amazing! It was beautiful, secluded and the perfect respite. The staff was incredible - so kind and helpful without being overbearing. We loved our bungalow, and glad we opted for an ocean view room. I’m so glad we stayed here and can’t wait to come back to mazunte! This is truly a special place. If you’re looking for a spot that’s off the beaten path with great service and amenities, this is your spot. It’s a short walk to the nearest beach or an easy cab ride to zipolite or San agustinillo.

An extraordinary experience in the middle of nature. The room was beautiful and very unique. Since everything is open, you are truly surrounded by nature – which also means some insects, but a mosquito net is provided. Ordering via WhatsApp was very easy and convenient. The road to get there is a bit rough. The food was good – especially the fish, which was delicious – though the portions are quite small. The pool looks better in photos than in real life and can be a bit messy in the afternoon with leaves. Overall, a special place for nature lovers.

Location is spectacular and staff are all top-notch!! Rooms are very unique, clean and have all the amenities you need (just be aware there is no a/c). The hotel is situated on top of a ridge overlooking a beautiful beach, which you do have to hike down to -- and obviously back up. This hotel is perfect for those interested in a true eco-friendly feel on the Mexican Pacific coast. Be advised, however, if you have mobility issues you will have a challenge getting to the beach and back and forth to the lodge, pool, dining/bar areas. The town of Mazunte is also a bit of a walk, probably a mile (down/up) but you can take a cab for about $16US each way or rent an ATV for about $30US a day.

Beyond extraordinary. This place allows you to rest, dream, and be surrounded by the landscape of one of the most beautiful places on earth. The open air rooms are gorgeous: simple, exquisite, with the feeling of floating in the forest. I experienced a traumatic death this year, and when we arrived and were blessed with copal for our time in the trees, it was the first time my shoulders dropped and I felt safe. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. You can easily just stay at the resort and let yourself soften, or take the fun dusty walk down to Mazunte and do touristy things - the team will help you have any experience you desire. And it's wildly romantic: perfect for lovers. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough.

We really loved out stay at Cocolia. Already the check-in and welcome ceremony were so special, the staff really know how to make you feel appreciated and at home. The bungalow was incredible with the open-air shower, the view, the feeling of being in nature while sleeping. The common areas are thoughtfully designed and very beautiful, and having the yoga space to ourselves felt like a real luxury. We also loved how close it is to Mermejita Beach, especially for the stunning sunsets. What made the experience truly special for me, though, is Cocolia’s strong commitment to sustainability. The hotel was for instance built without heavy machinery to protect the surrounding nature and runs entirely on solar power. Overall, this hotel experience will be very hard to live up to in the future! Thank you, Team Cocolia :)

Loved this hotel - very special. We felt immersed in nature with birds and the forest around us and amazing sea views and sunsets. The room was very stylish but comfy too -lots of places to sit and relax including the open air balcony. The pool area and restaurant were lovely to hang out and we used the Shala for yoga every morning. Our favourite thing to do was to walk down the path from the hotel, through the forest, to the best beach in the area to watch the pelicans swoop for fish while the sun goes down. Couldn't recommend Cocolia more - best place to stay in the area!
